TL;DR
  • The Samsung Galaxy A72’s specs have reportedly leaked.
  • Samsung’s next mid-range phone will sport a 90Hz display and 64MP rear camera.
  • The leak suggests a price of 449 can be expected in Europe.

Update: March 4, 2021 (1:07 AM ET): A listing on Google Play Console (via MySmartPrice) has now corroborated much of the Samsung Galaxy A72’s earlier specs leaks. The listing suggests the phone will sport the Snapdragon 720G chipset, 6GB of RAM, a display pixel density of 450 PPI, and will run Android 11.

There’s still no word on a launch date for the Galaxy A72, but the listing’s appearance suggests it shouldn’t be too far off now.

Original article: February 15, 2021 (3:02 AM ET): Samsung Galaxy A72 leaks have been coming on steam since December, but they haven’t yet shed much light on the forthcoming mid-range heavyweight. Now, the latest report gives us a fuller picture of what to expect.

The Galaxy A72 will initially arrive in a 4G flavor, per WinFuture. It’s likely Samsung will also offer a 5G option too like its predecessor, but there’s no word on that particular version just yet.

Aesthetically, the Galaxy A72 is a variation on the Galaxy A32. While the latter sported a completely flat rear without a camera hump, the A72 sports a slight plateau. Samsung’s also ditching its shimmering rear plates for pastel colorways for this Galaxy A generation.

In terms of specs, the A72 reportedly sports a 6.7-inch 2,400 x 1,080 AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This corroborates last week’s rumors that Samsung would bring higher refresh rate displays to its mid-range models. The phone will allegedly feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, too.

Internally, the Galaxy A72 apparently employs the Snapdragon 720G chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot to boost that figure and a 5,000mAh battery.

At the rear, the Galaxy A72 is said to feature a 64MP main camera joined by a 12MP ultrawide, an 8MP 2x telephoto camera, and a 2MP macro shooter. There’s no depth sensor this time around. Up front, a 32MP selfie camera sits in a punch hole.

Other niceties set to feature include a 3.5mm headphone jack, IP67 water and dust resistance, and a direct launch to Android 11 likely with One UI 3.1.

Finally, pricing is set to kick off at 449 (~$544) — a competitive figure considering the Galaxy A71 is priced at $599. However, for all its improvements, there may still be a few shortfalls. For starters, there’s no word on wireless charging support — a feature we sorely missed on the Galaxy A71.

Although that’s a pretty comprehensive leak, we’re still in the dark regarding a launch date. The Samsung Galaxy A71 made its debut in January 2020 alongside the Galaxy A51, so we expect the phone to appear sooner rather than later. As for the Galaxy A52, we expect that device to arrive in the near future, too.
