TL;DR
  • Samsung is reportedly working on a new smartwatch with a huge battery.
  • The new watch apparently offers more than double the capacity of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

Samsung launched its Galaxy Watch 4 series last year, with the standard model offering solid battery life while the smaller Classic disappointed in this regard. It sounds like the company might have a solution in the works for those wanting a watch with great endurance.

Samsung is working on a third Galaxy Watch 5 variant in addition to the expected Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Classic models. SamMobile‘s sources claim that this third model — unofficially dubbed a Pro variant by the website — has a 572mAh battery.

By contrast, the Galaxy Watch 4 is equipped with a 361mAh battery and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a 247mAh pack. In other words, the so-called Galaxy Watch 5 Pro would more than double the Classic model’s battery capacity, while still being significantly larger than the standard model’s battery.

We do wonder just how large this watch will be in order to accommodate the larger battery. It therefore might not be ideal if you don’t want to lug a brick around on your wrist.

Finally, SamMobile‘s sources claim the rumored watch isn’t 100% confirmed for launch just yet. But hopefully the watch sees the light of day after all, as Samsung’s smartwatch portfolio could do with another battery champion.
