End of an era: Samsung quietly ends support for Galaxy Watches that saved Wear OS

It’s officially the end of the road for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic. After four generational platform upgrades culminating in the rollout of One UI 8 Watch, Samsung has now stopped security updates for these smartwatches, marking the end of an era for the wearable lineup that practically revived Google’s smartwatch ecosystem.

As spotted by SamMobile, Samsung updated its Mobile Security work scope schedule following the release of its September 2026 security bulletin. Both the vanilla Galaxy Watch 4 and the physical-bezel Galaxy Watch 4 Classic have now been removed from the list of supported devices. This means the August 2026 security patch, which rolled out last month, serves as the final curtain call for both models.

The sunset brings a definitive close to a rather pivotal chapter in Android wearables. Debuting in August 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 lineup marked Samsung’s high-profile departure from Tizen OS to co-develop Wear OS 3 alongside Google.

Samsung promised four generations of Wear OS updates, resulting in Wear OS 3.5/One UI Watch 4.5, Wear OS 4/One UI 5 Watch, Wear OS 5/One UI 6 Watch, and the final Wear OS 6/One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4. With this, Samsung completely delivered on its (revised) commitment to long-term software support for these smartwatches.

If you are still strapping a Galaxy Watch 4 or Watch 4 Classic to your wrist, your device will not abruptly stop working. However, with software and security updates officially halted, you shouldn’t expect any new platform features to arrive or any newly discovered vulnerabilities to be patched.
