Ring's upcoming smart lock addresses battery worries with a hand crank
Oct 7, 2026 — 10:00 AM ET

- Ring has announced its first-ever smart lock, which can be recharged with a built-in energy crank in the thumbturn.
- This smart lock includes a fingerprint scanner and a touchscreen keypad, and users can control it through the Ring app or Alexa commands.
- Ring has also launched four new indoor and outdoor 4K cameras, along with an entry-level 2K indoor pan-and-tilt camera.
Amazon-owned Ring sells a wide range of smart home products, including doorbells, cameras, security systems, and several other accessories. One product that’s missing from its portfolio is a smart door lock. The company is now filling that gap with its first-ever smart lock.
Known simply as the Ring Smart Lock, it practically eliminates battery-related anxiety, thanks to an “energy crank” built into the thumbturn. “Crank it a few times and the lock powers itself right back up,” Ring says in the announcement. It includes a fingerprint reader, a backlit touchscreen keypad, the Ring app, and Alexa commands, giving you several ways to control it.
The smart lock attaches to your door’s existing standard single-cylinder deadbolt and doesn’t need additional wiring, per the company. It works with Amazon Sidewalk, a crowdsourced mesh network created via nearby Amazon products. This basically means you won’t need to rely on your home Wi-Fi for functions like remote locking, with unlocks happening on the device itself.
Customers can also remotely grant access to friends or family, or set specific time slots when a particular person can enter. These controls and all additional functions are available via the Ring app. As you would imagine, it can connect with existing Ring doorbells, alarms, and cameras, and lets you manage actions through Alexa on Echo devices.
Even with its unique crank-based recharging system, the Ring Smart Lock is priced competitively at $249. The bad news, however, is that this product won’t be available until Q1 2027, and Ring hasn’t provided a specific date.
Also say hello to Ring’s new lineup of indoor and outdoor cameras
Ring has also released a new set of cameras, ranging from 4K indoor and outdoor units to a budget indoor camera.
First up is the Outdoor Cam 4K Plus, which offers a 140-degree view and will be available with a built-in battery, as well as hardwired, plug-in, and PoE options. Ring has set a $149.99 price tag for this outdoor camera.
Next, we’re looking at the Floodlight Cam 4K Plus and Spotlight Cam 4K Plus, priced at $219.99 and $199.99, respectively. The former offers 24/7 recording and smart detection features, but only in hardwired setups. Meanwhile, the outdoor spotlight camera offers a 140-degree view and a bright 550-lumen spotlight for deterrence. You can get it in solar, battery, and plug-in options.
Ring also announced the Indoor Cam 4K, the company’s first indoor camera with 4K, priced at $99.99. In addition to a 115-degree view, this camera supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and comes with a physical privacy shutter that instantly blocks the camera and microphone. All four cameras use Retinal Vision 4K, an imaging technology Ring showcased last year.
Lastly, Ring is launching the budget-friendly Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K today for $69.99. As the name suggests, it offers 2K video quality, plus 360-degree panning and 175-degree tilt, to follow subjects as they move. Like the Indoor Cam 4K, the Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K includes a privacy shutter to disable the camera and microphone.
The Indoor Cam 4K and the entry-level Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K will be available for purchase starting today, while the rest of the camera lineup will go on pre-order today. All cameras will be available in White and Black colorways.
