Meta's newest smart glasses ditch the camera to avoid the 'pervert-glasses' tag

Meta has officially launched a new pair of camera-free smart glasses at Meta Connect. Dubbed “Ray-Ban Meta Audio,” these glasses ditch the privacy nightmare of cameras on your temples and offer an audio-only experience. The company has also launched new camera-equipped models and a “Muse Charm” accessory.

Meta says the glasses weigh just 43g, considerably lighter than the camera-equipped models that weigh between 51.5 and 53.8 grams. The Ray-Ban Meta Audio also features adjustable temple tips for added comfort. However, they aren’t user-adjustable, and you’ll need to take your glasses to a professional to get them tweaked to your liking.

Meta’s audio-only glasses are available in 23 color and lens combinations across two styles: Clubmaster and Burbank. They also support prescription lenses, offer 12 hours of listening on a charge, and provide an additional 48 hours with the charging case.

The Ray-Ban Meta Audio can be pre-ordered starting at $349 and will be available from October 13.

Alongside the camera-free glasses, Meta has announced a new device dubbed “Muse Charm.” The company didn’t share many details, but we do know it will be a tiny device you can use to talk with Meta’s Muse AI. It will also fit on a keychain, so you can carry it around.

According to Meta, the Muse Charm will bring the power of Muse AI with a real-time voice model. It also seems to have a built-in camera, making it possible that the device will be able to answer queries based on its surroundings. Meta didn’t give any pricing details for the Muse Charm, but it’s expected to start shipping in December, so we should get more information as we get closer to the holiday season.
