  • PUBG Mobile is cutting ties with Tencent Games in India.
  • PUBG Corporation will henceforth handle all publishing duties.
  • The move could help reverse the PUBG Mobile ban in India.

PUBG Mobile India is severing ties with Chinese game distributor Tencent Games. The announcement from PUBG Corporation comes days after the popular battle royale mobile game was banned in India alongside 117 other Chinese apps.

In its statement, PUBG Corporation notes that it will no longer authorize the PUBG Mobile franchise to Tencent Games in India, owing to the ban. Instead, the corporation itself will take on all the publishing responsibilities of the mobile game within the country.

This means that PUBG Mobile and all its future updates will henceforth be handled by South Korean video game company Bluehole, which in turn owns PUBG Corp.

“The company is actively engaged in developing and publishing PUBG on multiple platforms, including PUBG Mobile in select territories, to provide the best player experiences possible,” PUBG Corporation wrote on its website.

With this change in publishing practices, PUBG Mobile might soon get reinstated in India. PUBG Corporation hasn’t confirmed the ban reversal, but the whole reason for this move is to shed its image of being a Chinese app to prevent current and future sanctions.

It’s also unclear how gamers’ data will be handled going forward, but the firm promises that “the privacy and security of player data is a top priority.” It hopes to work “hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution” that’ll undo the PUBG Mobile ban in compliance with Indian laws and regulations.

“Further updates will be provided at a later date when available,” the company added.
