How often do you upgrade your smartwatch?

The Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2, Pixel Watch 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and the Moto Watch Ultra have all launched in quick succession, just weeks apart. If you’ve been wanting to upgrade to a newer smartwatch, or perhaps switch from your analog timepiece, you’re bound to feel a bit fatigued by the choices.

Smartphones now get four or more years of updates — manufacturers claim seven years for flagships like it’s nothing. Most smartwatches, on the other hand, begin to tap out after four or five years. A lot of you might upgrade it sooner than that, while some others might hold onto it even after brands stop pushing updates to these watches.

That inspired us to ask you: how often do you upgrade to a newer smartwatch? Is it every year, every few years, or until the watch takes its final breath? We’d love for you to vote in the poll below.

If you ask for my opinion, you don’t have to upgrade with every new generation unless you really want the latest features from Day 1. I have worn a smartwatch almost 24 hours a day since 2018 or so, and I’ve felt the need to upgrade at least every two years. I currently use a Galaxy Watch Ultra (64GB) that I bought at a hefty discount around the end of 2025. I’m fairly content with it and might stick with it until I find a better option with a battery long enough to justify the sticker shock — or if something truly compelling comes along and convinces me to buy for its health benefits.
