As the E3 2017 video game trade show gets underway this week in Los Angeles, there will almost certainly be a number of new game titles announced for Sony’s PlayStation 4 console. As it turns out, the company is also quietly expanding the reach of its PlayStation Video service this week as well. A new version of the app has made its way to the Google Play Store specifically for owners of Android TV set-top boxes and televisions.

For the 60 million PlayStation 4 owners, along with the millions of people who still own a PlayStation 3 console, this is definitely good news. While there’s already a PlayStation Video app for Android smartphones and tablets, having a version specifically for made for the use of large screen TVs simply expands the available options for people who regularly purchase or rent movies or TV shows from the service.

If you buy or rent any movies or TV episodes from your PlayStation 4 or 3 console from PlayStation Video, you can now also watch them on your Android TV device. You can also choose to cut the middle man and simply pay for any movies or TV shows directly from the app. Keep in mind that this service is different than Sony’s PlayStation Vue, which offers access to live broadcast and cable TV channels.
