Philips Hue shares how Nanoleaf panel control through its app is going to work

Earlier this week, leaked images revealed an exciting possibility for many smart light setups. Through that leak, we learned that Nanoleaf panels could soon work with the Philips Hue app through an unannounced wall light module. Now Philips Hue has provided more details on this integration.

There’s a new support page on Philips Hue’s website that’s dedicated to Nanoleaf integration. On the support page, the company confirms that its wall light module exists and that you can use it to control your Nanoleaf wall panels through the Hue app. It will work with Nanoleaf Hexagons, Triangles, and Mini Triangles.

The smart light maker mentions the following benefits:

• Easy setup, mount, and connect to your Nanoleaf panels
• Integrate Nanoleaf panels into Hue rooms and zones to have them participate in scenes, and automations
• Enables control via the Hue app, Hue accessories, and voice assistants

Philips Hue adds that, “Nanoleaf panels behave like a Hue light, ready to be used across your entire smart lighting setup.” The support page also confirms that, “Nanoleaf panels behave similarly to a gradient striplight.” That means when you use the color wheel, the wall light module will make your Nanoleaf panels match that color.

However, it seems like this won’t be a perfect solution. There are a couple of limitations that are listed on the support page:

• Nanoleaf scenes, music visualizations, touch gestures, and effects are not shown or controlled in the Hue app.
• If a Hue entertainment sync, automation, or alert is triggered (for example, a doorbell or light alarm), Hue will override any active Nanoleaf effect and will not automatically resume the last effect.

Regardless of the limitations, this new integration is something to look forward to. It could also prove beneficial for Nanoleaf Shapes sales.
