TL;DR
  • The Philips Hue Bridge Pro has seen a significant price increase in the US, reportedly in mid-August.
  • Meanwhile, customers in Europe are witnessing an even steeper price increase for the smart home hub.
  • Additionally, Europe is seeing higher prices on other Philips Hue products, such as smart light strips.

The global components shortage has already hit the tech industry hard. As a result, we’ve already seen price hikes across smartphones, computers, gaming consoles, and several other segments. It now looks like popular smart home products aren’t exempt either, as the Philips Hue Bridge Pro is facing a similar fate.

A quick look at the Philips Hue page shows a $139.99 price tag for the Bridge Pro, a $40 increase over the smart home hub’s launch-day price (via Hue Blog). Similarly, the Amazon listing also reflects the same $139.99 price, suggesting the updated price is live everywhere.

While we can’t quite say when the new price took effect, the consensus appears to be that it occurred sometime in mid-August.

Additionally, Hue Blog reports an even steeper price increase for the Bridge Pro across Europe, with prices rising from €99.99 to €149.99. Crucially, this is the second price bump for the Bridge Pro in Europe after the smart home hub saw a €10 price bump from its original price of €89.99 in March this year.

At the same time, Amazon Germany appears to be offering the Hue Bridge Pro for €72.99, though we can’t say how long that will last. In addition to the Hue Bridge Pro getting a €50 price bump in Europe, Hue Blog notes that other products, including the 4-pack Hue Essential bulbs, the Hue Flux, and the Hue OmniGlow strip, are also becoming more expensive in the region.

Since Philips Hue hasn’t officially announced this price increase, we can’t say what the company’s reason was behind this decision. However, considering the extent of price increases we’ve seen across the tech industry over the past couple of years, this shouldn’t come as a shock.

In any case, if you were considering buying the latest and greatest Philips smart home hub, we recommend grabbing one right away. Although this $40 price increase for the Hue Bridge Pro likely means no additional price bumps in the near future, you can never be too sure in this economic climate.
