Netflix is still the leading premium streaming service, with over 200 million worldwide subscribers. It offers thousands of movies and TV shows to binge watch, including its always growing list of original films and series, including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Bridgerton, and many more.

What is Ozark about?

When a white-collar criminal angers the wrong people, he moves his family to the Ozarks to start fresh, while not exactly leaving his criminal past behind.

What sounded like a Breaking Bad knockoff at first has proven to be a great crime drama in its own right. Netflix’s Ozark follows the Byrde family as they get deeper and deeper into the criminal underworld. Left with a huge amount of debt to his former employer, accountant Marty Byrde begins money laundering in his new home to make good.

As the seasons move along, the Byrdes all get more actively involved in the family business, making tons of money and some enemies along the way. They also make some unlikely and uneasy allies, particularly in the form of Ruth, a teen with attitude who helps them find their footing, but has ambitions of her own.

The season three finale saw the Byrde family getting themselves deeper into the criminal underworld of the Ozarks and reestablishing some degree of control for themselves.

They wiped out some threats and got closer to the top, ensuring some degree of financial security, but at an obvious added cost. If they took a wrong step, they might not have been able to recover.

The season also ended with Ruth making some shocking discoveries that may put her in direct conflict with the Byrdes. A fan-favorite character, Ruth is likely planning her own enterprise that could pose problems for the Byrdes.

Ozark season four teasers released by Netflix have been pretty cryptic. Synopses and clips suggest the new season picks up immediately where season three left off. If you want more information than that, though, you’ll have to watch it when it premieres.

The Byrdes are now working directly for drug cartel boss Omar Navarro in part one of the new season.

They’re also working with the FBI and hoping to find a way out of their life of crime safely, all of this while managing the fallout of their relationship with Ruth.

Navarro, for his part, also wants out, and the Byrdes are in a position to help him while helping themselves. Of course, that also puts them at greater risk than ever before too.

The series is as good as ever in Ozark season four, and part one lays the groundwork for what promises to be an explosive finale.

Our score: 8.5/10

Is Ozark season 4 really the final season?

Ozark season 4
Netflix

Yes and no. Season four is the final season of Ozark, but Netflix has opted to split it into two parts. “Isn’t that just two seasons?” you might reasonably ask. Well, yes, effectively it is. But it’s also a little bit different than two seasons.

For one thing, there are fewer episodes. Seasons one through three consisted of 10 episodes each. While Ozark season four is longer than that at 14 episodes, that still leaves us with two parts that are seven episodes each and thus shorter than the norm.

Having said that, part two will drop later, so, from a viewer’s perspective, it will feel a lot like two seasons.
