TL;DR
  • OPPO has launched the Reno 5 series in China.
  • The smartphone trio is headlined by the Reno 5 Pro Plus packing a 50MP Sony sensor and Snapdragon 865.
  • It goes on sale in China later this month, but there’s no word on global availability.

OPPO announced the Reno 3 series almost exactly a year ago, while the fourth iteration followed not long after in mid-2020. Now, the company has debuted the Reno 5 trio consisting of the standard model, a Pro option, and the range-topping Pro Plus variant.

All three guises are visually reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 20 series at the rear, with a trio of lenses featuring prominently. Up front, the Reno 5 series employs a left-aligned punch hole selfie camera.

OPPO Reno 5 Pro Plus

Despite their similar appearance, the OPPO Reno 5 Pro Plus is the definitive headliner. Weighing in at just under 185 grams with an 8mm thick body, it also sports s 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sample rate. The screen also boasts HDR10+ certification.

Internally, a Snapdragon 865 chipset features alongside a maximum of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. An 8GB/128GB model is also on offer. Both packages are powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 65W charging support for swift top-ups.

As for imaging, the Reno 5 Pro Plus is headlined by a brand-new 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS/EIS at the rear. Joining it is a 16MP wide-angle camera, a 13MP telephoto lens, and a 2MP macro lens. The selfie camera is powered by a 32MP sensor.

For those who have to match their device to their attire, shimmering silver-purple Starry Dream and metallic black Floating Night Shadow colorways are on option.

OPPO is also launching a limited edition model, featuring a back cover that changes color after double tapping it. Check it out in the video clip above.

The Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro

The Reno 5 Pro boasts the same 6.55-inch 90Hz OLED up front but turns down the processing and imaging performance. To push around those pixels, the phone relies on a Dimensity 1000 Plus chipset with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It’s powered by a 4,350mAh power cell with 65W peak charging speeds.

The Reno 5 meanwhile sports a smaller display at 6.43-inches but pairs a Snapdragon 765G with the same RAM and storage quota. As the smaller model, it packs a slightly smaller battery at 4,300mAh but does also get the 65W charging treatment.

Both models are headlined by a 64MP quad rear camera array with a 32MP selfie camera up front.

Finally, all three OPPO Reno 5 models run on Color OS 11.1 based on Android 11 from the get go.
