TL;DR
  • OPPO will purportedly reveal its foldable phone next month.
  • It’s believed that the device will offer an 8-inch folding display and flagship power.

It’s 2021 and Samsung is still the foldable phone king thanks to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 and their wide availability. Xiaomi and HUAWEI have also launched foldables though, and a new leak suggests OPPO will join the party as soon as next month.

Frequent tipster Bald Panda claimed on Weibo that OPPO will launch an in-folding foldable phone next month. The leaker added that the device will be equipped with an 8-inch 120Hz LTPO folding screen and a Snapdragon 888 series chipset. Check out the machine-translated post below.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about an upcoming OPPO foldable. Just last week, fellow Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station claimed the device would be equipped with a 7.8-inch to 8-inch QHD+ 120Hz foldable screen, a Snapdragon 888 SoC, and a 50MP IMX766 main camera, to name a few apparent specs. So it’s certainly shaping up to be an impressive device on paper.

In any event, this latest leak suggests that we might see the OPPO foldable sooner than initially suggested. Korean outlet The Elec reported back in July that the foldable might only launch in 2022. Still, a launch is one thing, but availability is another matter altogether. So we hope the rumored device comes to global markets, as HUAWEI and Xiaomi’s latest foldables have been restricted to China.

Another big unknown at this time is what kind of price you should expect to pay for this device. OPPO generally has a reputation for offering premium-priced products, so we wouldn’t be surprised if its first foldable starts at ~$1,700 or more.
