OnHub now has IFTTT support
If you’re not already using IFTTT, then you need to seriously think about what you’re doing with your life. Because one thing you’re not doing is putting the internet to work for you by letting IFTTT automatically handle a slew of daily tasks on the regular. The acronym stands for “If This, Then That,” and the service just hit Google’s OnHub router.
OnHub is the somewhat pricey offering from Google ($200) that seeks to bring you better wireless connectivity. The router has a unique antenna design and software features that allow it to automatically adjust in accordance with interference to make sure you have peak network performance at all times. Now Google has rolled out IFTTT connectivity, meaning your smart router just got even smarter.
The whole idea behind IFTTT is to chain events such that when one happens, the service will make sure something else happens as well. You can set it up for simple things like if you change your Facebook picture, then your Twitter profile will be updated to match. Take a new Instagram pic, well now that’s your smartphone background. Integration with OnHub brings some new capabilities like letting you use when certain devices connect to wifi as a trigger. Google boasts that OnHub is the first wifi router to have IFTTT integration, and as the video above showcases, you can do some pretty cool things with it.
