OnePlus has announced plans for a new R&D facility in India. The facility, which will play a critical role in development of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in OnePlus products and drive India-specific innovations, will be opened in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is one of the biggest IT hubs of the country and has development centers of several technology majors like Microsoft, Google, and Apple. The city also offers a sizeable pool of talent as well as a thriving startup scene. OnePlus will also initiate campus hiring program at several universities in India this year.

Pete Lau, Founder and CEO of OnePlus shared in a press note that the company plans to grow the new R&D center in Hyderabad into its biggest center globally in three years. The center will help the company re-focus its R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side.

Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing markets for OnePlus in India, and the company is also in process of expanding its offline presence in the region with the opening of a OnePlus Experience Store.

India is, of course, one of the biggest markets for OnePlus and the new facility will help OnePlus chart its roadmap towards adopting the Indian market as its home ground.
