TL;DR
  • OnePlus is teaming up with Keychron to create a mechanical keyboard.
  • OnePlus claims the keyboard will be “fully customizable.”
  • The company says that more information will come on December 15.

While best known as a smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus hasn’t been afraid to explore other areas of interest including earbuds, smartwatches, and even TVs. The company’s most recent attempt to expand its portfolio, however, will see the creation of a new mechanical keyboard.

OnePlus has announced that it is partnering with well-known mechanical keyboard manufacturer Keychron on a new project. The new project will reportedly be a “fully customizable” keyboard that leverages Keychron technology.

According to OnePlus, its decision to jump into the mechanical keyboard market was based on what its community wanted. The manufacturer claims that it held several rounds of voting among its users and they determined that a keyboard should be the next product the company should pursue.

Although OnePlus has made it known that it intends to make a mechanical keyboard, it shied away from providing any more details. So it’s unknown exactly how customizable its keyboard will actually be. Will OnePlus allow you to change out the case, mounting plate, and more? Or will it be limited to simply having the ability to swap out switches and keycaps?

However, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long for additional information. The firm states on its website that more details will be available on December 15.

In addition to this announcement, OnePlus also revealed that it is launching a new computer monitor that will come out on December 12. Similar to the keyboard announcement, the company didn’t provide many details outside of the monitor’s release date.
