iPhone 13 Pro introduced ProMotion with 120Hz displays, and it became a hot subject among people in tech. However, this tech isn’t brand-new — the OnePlus 7 Pro (2019) was the first commercially released phone with a 90Hz refresh rate on an OLED display. And it has only gone to improve the display to perfection ever since.

Every new smartphone launch comes with a set of awards for one thing or another. However, it takes a special effort to earn praise year in and year out for your smartphone display. That’s just what OnePlus has managed to do, garnering annual recognition from DisplayMate and more.

Of course, DisplayMate awards are just the icing on top. Here’s what you need to know about OnePlus and its history of stellar displays.

A legacy of firsts

The old saying about the early bird getting the worm rings loud and true when it comes to brand-new devices. No matter the brand and no matter the feature, getting to market first comes with serious bragging rights.

OnePlus tapped into the trend early, bringing 90Hz OLED displays to phones years before the competition. It added 120Hz options to the mix well before Apple brought the smooth refresh rate to the iPhone 13 Pro. The OnePlus 7 Pro was even the first to bring a 90Hz refresh rate on a 1440p panel to the masses.

OnePlus was the first to bring an in-display fingerprint sensor to the US market with the OnePlus 6T, too. For all of 2018 and early 2019, there was only one way to get your hands on the new technology in the States.

Now, OnePlus has become the first to support Fortnite on a mobile phone at 90 fps. The OnePlus 9 Pro introduced Fluid Display 2.0, which dynamically adjusts its frame rate to fit your tasks. Not to mention the fact that it sports a 120Hz QHD+ panel.

Nothing less than A+

Earning an A+ always felt great in school. Now imagine if you earned an A+ for three years running. That’s what OnePlus has been up to when it comes to DisplayMate’s prestigious rankings. It started with the OnePlus 7 Pro before the OEM outdid itself on the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro to retain the lofty accolade.

The legendary combination of a 120Hz refresh rate, a large, crisp display, and industry-leading technology keeps OnePlus soaring above the competition. DisplayMate even went so far as to declare “the 9 Pro sets or matches 13 Smartphone Display Performance Records, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.” It’s rarely easy to break your own record, but OnePlus has found a way, time and time again.

If you’re ready to see what all of the excitement is about, you can always head over to T-Mobile for some exclusive savings on the OnePlus 9 family. The standard OnePlus 9 is 50% off right now when you activate a line or you can knock $375 off the price of a OnePlus 9 Pro.
