OnePlus is running a short film contest with a first prize of $10,000

If you’re a budding filmmaker who also happens to love OnePlus devices, there’s a new OnePlus contest running which tasks you with creating a short film. The grand prize winner will get $10,000, two OnePlus devices, and a gimbal.

Second and third prize winners will receive $4,000 and $2,000 respectively. The second prize winner will also receive two OnePlus devices (but no gimbal) while the third prize winner will just get one OnePlus device.

Before you rush out to start shooting your film, this OnePlus contest is a little convoluted. Rather than simply accepting finished film submissions, OnePlus wants to help guide the filmmaking process from beginning to end. The company’s called in a filmmaker by the name of Giacomo Mantovani who, through a series of “Masterclass” videos, will give instructions on how to best create a video using a smartphone. To get started with the OnePlus contest, you’ll need to first submit your idea. Using this form, you’ll tell OnePlus what story you want to tell in 300 words or less. The company will then go through all the submissions and select a number of finalists who will progress on to the next round.

After an undisclosed number of these brainstorming rounds, OnePlus will select 10 semi-finalists. Each of these semi-finalists will receive a free OnePlus 6T with which they will shoot their film. Of those 10 films, three winners will be selected.

There are only two catches to the contest. The first is that all entries must be in English. The second is that OnePlus can use the films and film ideas submitted for whatever purpose it likes.
