No OnePlus 9T Pro this year, but nice display specs for 9T, says leak

There wasn't an 8T Pro in 2020 either, so this isn't too surprising. The suggested 9T display specs are, though!

TL;DR
  • A leak suggests there will not be a OnePlus 9T Pro this year.
  • There wasn’t a OnePlus 8T Pro in 2020, so this rumor makes sense.
  • The leak also suggests the vanilla 9T could have a similar display to the 9 Pro.

Last year, OnePlus decided to skip launching a Pro variant of the OnePlus 8T. This was surprising at the time, as the company had launched the OnePlus 7T Pro in 2019 (and even a OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition).

Recently, a leaker on Weibo (shared by TechDroider on Twitter and promoted by PhoneArena) claims that OnePlus won’t be changing up the formula again this year. According to the leaker’s intel, there likely will not be a OnePlus 9T Pro in 2021.

This makes a lot of sense so we’re inclined to believe it. Even if you ignore the fact that OnePlus skipped a Pro model last year, the ongoing global chip shortage would make launching two T-series phones in the Fall tricky. We’d bet good money that there will only be a OnePlus 9T.

As far as that vanilla model is concerned, the leaker claims OnePlus could offer a very similar display experience with the 9T that it currently offers with the OnePlus 9 Pro. According to the leaker, the 9T’s display could be a curved LTPO OLED with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. However, the resolution probably would get knocked down to 1080p, rather than the 9 Pro’s 1440p quality.

OnePlus usually launches its T-series phone in October, although that launch could move up slightly since the launch of the 9-series happened earlier than usual this year.
