OnePlus 8 launch could happen April 15, but one device could be missing
Previously, we heard the OnePlus 8 launch date would come in mid-April. Now, via Max J. on Twitter, we have a more specific date: April 15, 2020. It doesn’t get more mid-April than that, does it?
Keep in mind, this is not a confirmed OnePlus 8 launch date. So far, the company itself has been very quiet on when we should expect the latest entries in its series of smartphones.
According to the sources speaking to WinFuture, though, this rumored April 15 launch date is actually later than the company hoped. The rumor is that, originally, OnePlus may have wanted to have the OnePlus 8 launch date be sometime this month. However, problems with the coronavirus allegedly mucked up those plans.
The anonymous source of this info did not divulge the specific date OnePlus might have originally had in mind.
Speaking of the coronavirus, the pandemic may have also ruined OnePlus’ plans for one of the three phones we expect to land in the 8 series: the OnePlus 8 Lite. WinFuture attests that OnePlus may only launch the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro at the April 15 event. The OnePlus 8 Lite might need to launch later.
If the rumors are true, the OnePlus 8 Lite would be the first non-Qualcomm smartphone from the brand. It’s possible the lack of adequate supply of the expected MediaTek chipset could be a major factor in the potential delay, as that Chinese company is also hugely affected by the coronavirus.
Either way, it’s a safe bet we’ll see an online-only OnePlus 8 launch date on April 15. There could just be two devices launched instead of three.
