TL;DR
  • A OnePlus 8 Google Camera mod now supports multiple lenses, not just the primary lens.
  • You don’t need to root to gain access to multiple lenses, which is good news for people who don’t want (or can’t) root.
  • The mod still doesn’t work for all lenses on both OnePlus 8 phones, though.

Although there are a few OnePlus 8 Google Camera mods floating around the internet, most only allow you to access to primary lens. If they do offer the option of using the other lenses on board, you need to root the phone first, which might not be ideal for some users.

Thankfully, though, a popular OnePlus 8 Google Camera mod created by “Urnyx05” now lets you access more than just the primary lens without needing to root (via XDA Developers). It still doesn’t give you access to every lens on the OnePlus 8 or the OnePlus 8 Pro, but it’s some good progress.

OnePlus 8 Google Camera: Which lenses work?

One the OnePlus 8, the Google Camera mod created but Urnyx05 will now access the main lens as well as the ultra-wide. The macro camera is still blocked, unfortunately. It’s similar for the OnePlus 8 Pro, with the main, telephoto, and ultra-wide working fine, but the color filter lens not working.

We’ll let you be the judge if these two missing lenses are worth worrying about.

As for how to make this work, you’ll need to tell the app to access all the available lenses — it will only use the primary lens by default. To switch on the other lenses, head to Settings > Advanced > Auxiliary Camera within the OnePlus 8 Google Camera mod app and toggle the “Telephoto” and “Wide” options to the “On” position. Now you’ll have access to three lenses.

To learn more about this mod and give it a shot on your OnePlus 8 series phone, head to XDA Developers and follow the instructions.
