Smartphone gods, please let this 3,700mAh battery really be for the OnePlus 6T

Along with the lack of a headphone jack, the OnePlus 6T will include a larger battery...but is this it?

TL;DR
  • According to a leaked photo, the OnePlus 6T includes a 12 percent larger battery relative to the OnePlus 6.
  • The OnePlus 6 already has respectable endurance, so the OnePlus 6T could be among the longer-lasting Android smartphones.
  • The OnePlus 6T might go official October 17.

OnePlus already informed everyone that its upcoming OnePlus 6T will have a larger battery relative to the OnePlus 6. What OnePlus did not say, however, was how much larger that battery would be. According to a leaked photo from Chinese microblogging site Weibo, we might know what that increase looks like.

Reported by MySmartPrice, the leaked photo shows the OnePlus 6T’s alleged 3,700mAh battery. That represents an approximate 12 percent increase over the 3,300mAh battery in the OnePlus 6, which we found to be well above average in our testing.

The OnePlus 6T’s alleged battery size is still smaller than other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and HUAWEI P20 Pro, which feature 4,000mAh batteries. Larger batteries in smartphones are always welcome — as long as they do not spontaneously combust in your pocket.

Funnily enough, the OPPO R17 Pro also features a 3,700mAh battery. The OnePlus 6T’s design allegedly comes from the R17 Pro, so similar battery sizes would make sense.

A larger battery would not be the only new thing about the OnePlus 6T. Based on previous rumors, the upcoming smartphone also features a waterdrop notch and a slightly thicker chassis to accommodate the new technology.

We also expect a slightly higher price tag relative to the OnePlus 6 and know that the device will lack a headphone jack, the latter of which caused quite the stir when OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei made the controversial announcement earlier in September.

As a consolation, each OnePlus 6T will include a USB Type-C adapter to help owners with the adjustment. OnePlus also unveiled a new pair of Bullets V2 earbuds that feature a USB Type-C connector.

We will not have to wait very long to learn everything there is to know about the OnePlus 6T — rumors peg an October 17 launch for the smartphone. Be sure to check back with us whenever OnePlus officially announces the OnePlus 6T.
