The OnePlus 6 is finally here. After multiple leaks, it’s confirmed: the phone will have three color choices — two black styles and a limited edition white model.

Android Authority spent some hands-on time with the new device’s midnight black, mirror black, and limited edition silk white color variants. OnePlus has made the midnight black available at the higher price and specification points, while the mirror black is at the lower end. The silk white variant will be available on June 5th, around two weeks after the two black phones hit the markets.

All three colors offer the same design, with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 covering the front and back. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau discussed this on the OnePlus forums, where he revealed that more than 70 different glass prototypes were tested. OnePlus told Android Authority during the earlier pre-briefing it considered a ceramic design, but it was “too heavy” for everyday use. Lau himself said the glass design “significantly improves” signal reception and LTE performance, which we look forward to testing.

Here’s all the info about the three OnePlus 6 colors.

OnePlus 6 midnight black

OnePlus 6 Midnight Black

The midnight black option you’ve seen before from OnePlus, available in all the recent releases including the OnePlus 5T so it makes sense it’s here again. It has a matte finish on the back as per normal, but given it’s a glass body there’s plenty of differences to the OnePlus 5T midnight black before it.

OnePlus told us the style and finish were carefully crafted with Corning, collaborating to place a large number of tiny holes in the glass to give it the matte finish. A distinctive S-shaped pattern curves off the back of the device as overhead lights hit it just right, courtesy of a jagged texture of film in the glass. It’s a nice evolution on the standard from OnePlus here. From our hands-on, this color option is about as smudge friendly as you’d hope to get from glass — worth noting if you’re not one to use a smartphone case.

The midnight black version will have the highest specs, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. It’s also available at the more thrifty 8GB RAM and 128GB storage as well.

OnePlus 6 mirror black

OnePlus 6 colors mirror black

We’ve seen the mirror black option, with its the highly reflective look and feel, from OnePlus before.  This time in all-glass, polished to look ceramic. We were told the design incorporates a number of layers laid down to give depth to the polished look. That does, unfortunately, make the phone a fingerprint magnet, showing smudges and dust very easily. It’s the most slippery of all, courtesy not just of the all-glass finish, but the polish as well.

This color is the only option at the phone’s cheapest version, which has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It’s also available on with the middle spec option, with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

OnePlus 6 silk white (limited edition)

OnePlus 6 colors silk white

The silk white will be available on June 5th, approximately two weeks after the black editions, and will be offered at just at the middle spec 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Its glass backing doesn’t quite look or feel like you’d expect. OnePlus told us in a pre-briefing it added fine pearl particles to give the distinctive white shine within the glass a nice premium look. It’s a nod to the OnePlus One, which also had a silk white option, but given it’s all-glass it’s very different. We don’t yet have an indication of exactly how limited the silk white version’s numbers will be.

In terms of any other color options, we’ve seen OnePlus collaborate in the past with iconic pop culture brands like Star Wars. We’ve now seen that at least China and India will receive an extra variant of the OnePlus 6, courtesy of an Avengers: Infinity War collaboration. Depending on your market, there may be one or two additional surprises down the road as well.
