TL;DR
  • OnePlus India teases Avengers: Infinity War-themed announcement.
  • Now-deleted video showed Avengers and OnePlus’ logos alongside the movie’s title card.
  • OnePlus previously collaborated with Marvel’s parent company, Disney, for the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition.

Marvel’s mightiest heroes are just weeks away from taking on the ultimate big bad purple dude Thanos in a cinematic extravaganza ten years in the making. With the hype for Avengers: Infinity War at fever pitch, it seems like OnePlus is looking to capitalize on the buzz with a crossover release of its own.

News of a possible Avengers-themed release comes via a teaser video shared by OnePlus India on Facebook. In the short video, which has since been removed, the OnePlus and Avengers logos can both be seen as the image distorts before it all ends with the movie’s title and release date. You can see a mirror of the video below (thanks, Android Central).

There’s no official confirmation on what the teaser actually means, but it seems likely that OnePlus is preparing to launch an Avengers-themed version of its next flagship, the OnePlus 6.

This wouldn’t be the first time OnePlus has created a limited edition device based on a Disney-owned property. Late last year, the Chinese OEM released the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition, which was essentially a reskin of the top-spec 5T model with Star Wars branding on the back and some special wallpapers.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar product surface to celebrate the release of Infinity War on April 27. Seriously, who wouldn’t want a phone with a glistening gold Infinity Gauntlet slapped on the back? It could even top the awesome Iron Man Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from a few years back!

It’s worth noting, however, that the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition only ever saw the light of day in India (and a handful of European markets), and based on the source of the video, the same may be true of any potential Avengers tie-in phone.
