It's official: The OnePlus 16 launches next month with Elite Extreme power

OnePlus has been drip-feeding OnePlus 16 details over the past couple of weeks. We’ve already heard about the phone’s impressive (for OnePlus) camera hardware as well as the rear LED, but we haven’t heard launch details. Until now, that is.

OnePlus has confirmed on Weibo that the OnePlus 16 will launch in China on October 12. That means we’ve got exactly two weeks to go until the phone is fully revealed. Check out the machine-translated image below.

The company also shared a few more details about the OnePlus 16. We knew that the phone would be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chipset, and we now know that it will have the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The company specifically mentioned that the chipset has a GPU with Matrix Cores, which is restricted to the Extreme processor.

Qualcomm’s chipset also supports features like 4K/240fps slow-motion capture, 8K/60fps video recording, and the APV codec. However, there’s no word if the OnePlus 16 will offer any of these options. I wouldn’t bet on it, either, as the phone is positioned as a performance-focused device.

OnePlus also reiterated that the phone will have a 185Hz refresh rate, as well as custom touch and Wi-Fi chips for improved gaming performance. The brand previously revealed upgraded camera hardware compared to the OnePlus 15. This includes a 200MP 1/1.4-inch main camera, a 50MP 3x IMX882 telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultrawide shooter. Buyers are also getting an XPAN-style mode and a Master Mode.

Unfortunately, fans in the US and Europe will have to import the OnePlus 16 as OnePlus is no longer operating in these markets. That’s a real shame, especially in light of the OnePlus 15’s polarizing reception compared to the OnePlus 13.

Don’t be surprised if the OnePlus 16 is more expensive than the OnePlus 15 in its home market, though. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is rumored to be significantly more expensive than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Furthermore, the RAM crisis has also resulted in skyrocketing memory costs.
