Oreo is here for NVIDIA Shield TV (For real this time, honest)
- NVIDIA is rolling out the new NVIDIA Shield TV Oreo update.
- This will update Shield TV boxes to Shield Experience 7.0.
- Previously, NVIDIA announced and then removed an Oreo update to Shield TVs, but this time it’s for real.
At the end of May, NVIDIA announced a rollout of the confusingly-named Shield Experience 7.0, which brings Android 8.0 Oreo to the NVIDIA Shield TV lineup. However, the rollout was halted when bugs were found, upsetting many.
Today though, NVIDIA is pushing a Shield TV Oreo update that is good-to-go. In other words, it’s for real this time.
Great news – SHIELD Upgrade Experience 7.0 is rolling out today for all users. If you don’t receive a push notification, you can manually check for updates under Settings > About > System Updates. Thank you for your patience! https://t.co/ar6VZcMzDY— NVIDIA SHIELD (@nvidiashield) June 27, 2018
As previously announced, Shield Experience 7.0 (which is actually Android 8.0, don’t forget) introduces numerous UI enhancements which focus on giving users total control over how their media is organized and presented. There are also some more general Android security updates, some firmware upgrades for accessories (like the Shield controllers), and general stability fixes.
The NVIDIA Shield TV is Android Authority’s favorite media streamer (yes, even better than Roku), and this Oreo upgrade will make the device even better. Hopefully, NVIDIA won’t have to pull this update like it did before. Maybe you should wait a bit before hitting the Update button, just in case?
