Nubia, the sub-brand of China’s ZTE, has finally announced the launch of its maiden gaming smartphone, the Red Magic, in India.

The device packs a rather unique, angled rear, featuring a single 24MP f/1.7 main camera and tapered edges. And to amplify the gaming smartphone pitch, of course, there’s a customizable LED strip on the back. There’s also a hardware switch, dubbed GameBoost, which enables a performance mode.

The Red Magic is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 835 processor instead of the new Snapdragon 845. At the time of its unveil earlier this year, the company claimed that it was the best available chipset that could sustain performance without throttling, although I’m not sure of that.  It sports a 6-inch full HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and thankfully, there’s no notch.

Nubia Red Magic Specifications

  • Operating System: Android 8.1 Oreo
  • Display: 5.99-inch Full HD (1080 x 2160) | 403ppi | 18:9 aspect ratio
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (up to 2.45GHz)
  • GPU: Adreno 540
  • Storage: 128GB UFS2.1
  • Rear Camera: 24MP | 0.9μm pixel size | f/1.7 aperture
  • Front Camera: 8MP | 1.12μm pixel size | f/2.0 aperture
  • Battery: 3800mAh
  • Dimensions: 158.1mm x 74.9mm x 9.5(6.8) mm
  • Weight: 185g

Nubia has shared that Red Magic has been optimized for 128 games to provide improved performance and faster game loading speeds.

The Red Magic will be available in India exclusively on and is priced at ₹29,999 ($427). What do you think of the new gaming smartphone in India – after the recently launched ROG Phone by Asus – and would you like to pick one up? Tell us in the comments.
