TL;DR
  • It’s been confirmed that the Nothing Phone 1 will not be sold in the US or Canada.
  • It’s likely the reason was due to the Nothing company not being able to get any agreements with US carriers.
  • Nothing says it plans to sell future phones to the US market.

If you live in the US or Canada and have been waiting patiently to purchase the upcoming Nothing Phone 1, be prepared for disappointment. In a statement sent to PCMag, the Nothing company has confirmed it will not officially be selling its first phone in North America.

The statement said, in part:

While we’d love to bring phone (1) to the entire community around the world, we’re focusing on home markets, including the UK and Europe, where we have strong partnerships with leading local carriers. It takes a lot to launch a smartphone as you know, from ensuring the handset is supported by the country’s cellular technologies to carrier partnerships and local regulation, and as we’re still a young brand we need to be strategic about it.

While the statement doesn’t say this flat out, it strongly hints the Nothing company was unable to reach an agreement with any North American wireless carriers. It did urge fans to “call their carrier to let them know about us” for future smartphone releases.

Speaking of which, the company says it has “big plans to launch a U.S. supported smartphone in the future.” In the meantime, a select few “private community investors in the U.S.” will be able to get the Nothing Phone 1 via some kind of closed beta program. However, for the rest of North America, it looks like the Nothing Phone 1 will remain out of reach, at least on an official basis.
