Xiaomi confirms new flagship coming January 2015
Xiaomi looks to be expanding its already extensive product line-up even further early next year. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has announced, via Weibo, that the company is preparing to introduce its next flagship device sometime in January 2015.
Unfortunately for us, no further details about the device or launch date have been given out yet. Speculation is ranging from a new Mi flagship smartphone, although it seems unlikely that the Mi5 would arrive so soon after its predecessor, to a larger 5.5-inch Mi4S refresh or a successor to popular low cost RedMi Note. A tablet could also be on the cards, as the company launched its first tablet, the Mi Pad, more than 6 months ago.
However, there is also a possibility that this unspecified device may not be smartphone related at all. Details and pictures have emerged that point to an upcoming Xiaomi Notebook, which is expected to cost somewhere around 2999 Yuan (approximately $480). The Xiaomi Notebook is said to come with a 15-inch 1080p display and will be powered by an Intel Haswell i7-4500u processor, accompanied by 2 x 8GB dual channel memory and a customised version of Linux. However, no official details about the notebook have been announced by the Chinese manufacturer.
In other Xiaomi news, the company has recently completed its latest funding campaign for a further 1.1 billion US dollars, valuing Xiaomi at $45 billion. The latest investors to back the company are All-Stars Investment, Russian firm DST Global, Singapore sovereign-wealth fund GIC, Hopu Fund, and Yunfeng Capital.
