TL;DR
  • Samsung might be prepping a cheaper version of the Galaxy S21 FE.
  • The new model is expected to ship with the Snapdragon 720G, a processor downgrade.
  • It is unclear in which countries the phone might land.

Samsung might be on the verge of releasing a new version of the Galaxy S21 FE, one with a significant change that could lead to a lower price point.

The Galaxy S21 FE is Samsung’s budget version of the Galaxy S21. According to Galaxy Club (h/t SamMobile), Samsung could be prepping a new version that includes the Snapdragon 720G processor instead of the Snapdragon 888 or Samsung’s own Exynos 2100.

Aside from the processor, everything else about the proposed model seems fairly standard and lines up with the current S21 FE. The one point of confusion is whether the new phone has 5G or not. Using the Snapdragon 720G would seem to imply the phone will only offer LTE, but sources suggest the new model could still include 5G.

The Galaxy S21 FE has traditionally offered the same processor — and many of the same features — as the S21. Saumsung has been able to price the S21 FE lower by offering a less advanced camera, less RAM, less battery life, and a less advanced screen than the standard S21.

By offering the S21 FE with an older and cheaper processor, Samsung may be able to significantly reduce the cost of the phone and better target the budget market.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to say when this phone could launch. It’s also unknown which countries it would land in when it does. Stay tuned for more.
