Lenovo may have used a fan video to tease its upcoming Motorola Razr foldable phone

It turns out that Lenovo didn’t create a promotional video that teased the upcoming Motorola Razr foldable phone, reported Engadget today. Instead, the video was reportedly spliced together from a separate video created by YouTube user Waqar Khan.

Lenovo shared the 30-second teaser video yesterday with members of the media. The teaser showed what looks to be renders of the Razr, along with various shots of the phone being folded and unfolded. The last shot is three Razr renders unfolding in sequence, with the camera panning around the devices as they unfold.

What’s interesting is that Lenovo’s video is remarkably similar to one that Khan published in February, down to the renders that were used. Khan’s video even features the same shot as the one found near the end of Lenovo’s video.

According to Khan, Lenovo didn’t approach him regarding the renders. Khan also told Engadget that the company supposedly used his footage without permission. Android Authority reached out to Khan and Lenovo regarding the allegations, but didn’t hear back by press time.

This would be a weird turn of events if the claims are true. Lenovo’s alleged use of a fan-made video isn’t great news for those who think the Razr is real. Then again, Lenovo might have released the video to garner some hype for the phone without doing much work.
