Moto E5 Plus
TL;DR
  • Motorola India confirms E5 Plus launch on July 10.
  • The largest of the E5 series will be an Amazon India exclusive.
  • No sign of the Moto E5 or E5 Play.

Motorola’s bizarre global rollout of the Moto E5 series continues with the announcement that the Moto E5 Plus will launch in India on July 10. The largest of Motorola’s budget-friendly E5 trio will retail exclusively via Amazon India, with pricing yet to be confirmed.

News began spreading of the E5 Plus’ next venture after Motorola sent out a “save the date” promo to press (below) which shows someone taking a break from a tennis game to check their E5 Plus phone. The image confirms the Amazon India exclusivity and references the E5 Plus’ larger battery and screen.

What it doesn’t hint at, however, is any kind of launch plan for the two other E5 devices — the Moto E5 and the Moto E5 Play — in the region.

It also comes just over a month after Motorola started confirming the range’s incredibly confusing release schedule in the U.S., where the vanilla E5 is being skipped over entirely and where you might need a spreadsheet to keep track of all the different carrier variants, availability, and pricing decisions.

As a quick refresher, the Moto E5 Plus is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 SoC backed by 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable), and a chunky 5,000mAh battery. It also sports a 6-inch 1440 x 720 display (18:9), a 12MP rear camera, and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.

As for pricing, the European version currently goes for 169 euros, which is around 13,500 rupees. With high price-performance ratios such an important factor in the ultra-competitive Indian market, Motorola could go in at a slightly lower price with the E5 Plus to compete with the likes of Xiaomi. Although considering the firm tacked on $100 extra in the U.S. for no discernable reason, it’s probably best to wait for official confirmation before making any guesses.
