Mortal Kombat X

For gamers back in the 90’s, the 16-Bit war consisted of two sides: the “wimps” on Nintendo who got a censored, watered down, kiddy-friendly version of Midway’s violent Mortal Kombat, and the “real gamers” on Sega who received the uncensored and ultra explicit version. In those days, pulling out an opponent’s heart or spine was considered horrific…and perhaps still is today. Despite a rather complicated history (story-wise and developer-wise) the series is still alive and kicking, and will soon be available for Android gamers to sink their teeth into.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has just announced the worldwide debut of Mortal Kombat X, and it’s going to be on mobiles no less. The game will be a free-to-play affair which the publisher bills as a “fighting/card-battler hybrid” and is developed by NetherRealm Studios, whose previous titles include both Mortal Kombat installments as well as Batman Arkham City Lockdown and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

In addition to the standard fighting and card collecting (?!, the game will also have multiplayer-based team combat and see the return of the shut-your-eyes-hide-your-kids Fatalities and x-rays. Series veterans Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero and others will return along with a new set of Kombatants.

Mortal Kombat X will be released in April, and have unlockables when combined with a PC or home console version and a Warner Brothers WB Play account: mobile play and achievements will unlock console/PC content, and vice-versa.
