TL;DR
  • The Montblanc Summit 2 is a WearOS smartwatch and the first to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset.
  • The luxurious wearable has pretty much every feature one could want in a smartwatch.
  • The Montblanc Summit 2 isn’t cheap though, running from $995 to $1,230.

For over two years now, smartwatches running WearOS (formerly Android Wear) run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100, the company’s chipset designed specifically for wearables. Although the 2100 is perfectly capable of running a watch, it’s a bit old and very limited.

We finally have the 2100’s successor — the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 — and thus can create WearOS smartwatches with better battery life, faster processing, and more features.

Now, we have the very first WearOS smartwatch to hit the market with the Wear 3100 chipset: the Montblanc Summit 2.

Montblanc is one of the world’s premier luxury watch brands, and the Summit 2 keeps with the company’s opulent traditions. You can see the specs of the device below, but suffice it to say this smartwatch has pretty much everything you could ever want: form, function, customization, and a two-year satisfaction guarantee.

However, that all comes at a price: the cheapest Montblanc Summit 2 starts at $995 and the priciest model hits the $1,230 mark. Ouch.

That high price likely has more to do with the Montblanc name and reputation for excellence than it does the brand new 3100 chipset. It is very probable other smartwatches with the new processor will hit the market soon in time for the holidays, and feature much more reasonable prices. However, the Montblanc Summit 2 has the honor of being the first Wear 3100 device you can buy — you just have to be ready to pay up if you want to be one of the first to use it.
