Mobvoi accidentally leaks 2019 version of TicWatch Pro with Verizon logo
- Mobvoi accidentally leaked a promotional image of the “new TicWatch Pro.”
- The image contains a Verizon logo and “powered by Verizon” copy, which suggests the 2019 smartwatch will feature LTE connections.
- Based on the image, we can speculate about some other things related to this new watch, but it’s still fairly open-ended.
The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro from 2018 is still one of the best Wear OS smartwatches you can buy today. Now, we have some leaked information to suggest that a new TicWatch Pro is on the way for 2019 and will very likely be LTE-capable on the Verizon network.
The leak, spotted by Digital Trends, comes directly from Mobvoi itself. It looks as though someone at the company accidentally uploaded the product page for a 2019 version of the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro to Mobvoi.com. Luckily, Digital Trends caught it — and got a screenshot — before Mobvoi took down the page.
Check out the screenshot below:
What can we assume from this picture? The most obvious thing we can tell is that Mobvoi has partnered with Verizon for the 2019 update to the TicWatch Pro, which strongly suggests you will be able to connect the smartwatch directly to the Verizon network. This would enable you to make phone calls, send text messages, stream music, and download apps on the watch without needing a smartphone nearby.
Other than that, we can only speculate about what the 2019 TicWatch Pro will be like. The 2018 variant of the device is very thick because it essentially has two displays: a beautiful, high-resolution OLED panel combined with a Super Twisted Nematic (FSTN) LCD panel. The former panel is used for most smartwatch functions while the latter panel handles specific functions primarily to save battery power.
The image suggests that the watch will still be very thick, which leads us to believe the dual-display concept is still there.
The knobs on the side look a little different from the 2018 version, but are still in the same spot and still protrude quite a bit. This leads us to believe that the 2019 version of the TicWatch Pro is going to be very similar in design.
But what about specs? If Mobvoi isn’t drastically redesigning the outside of the device, it’s very possible the insides will stay the same, albeit with a 4G LTE modem inside for connecting to the Verizon network. The fact that the photo above says “new TicWatch Pro” instead of something like “TicWatch Pro 2” lends credence to this.
However, it’s very possible that the “new TicWatch Pro” will be how it’s marketed, but the insides will be drastically overhauled. That could mean a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, more RAM, a bigger battery, or any number of upgrades.
One thing is for certain: if the internal specs are the same but an LTE modem is thrown in, battery life will likely be worse than on the 2018 Mobvoi TicWatch Pro as those 4G connections will suck up more juice.
