RCS misbehaving in Messages? Google says a fix is on the way
Oct 2, 2026 — 2:37 PM ET

- Google Messages users have been complaining about problems with media attachments failing to send over RCS.
- Google now confirms that it’s aware of a message delivery bug with RCS.
- The company already has a fix for the problem, and it’s currently rolling out to Messages users.
The shift from SMS and MMS to RCS represented one of the biggest upgrades for Google Messages ever. Not only has RCS already empowered countless enhancements across the messaging experience, but it’s still working on getting even better. For as much as we love it, though, occasionally all those upgrades manage to backfire on us — and that’s just the sort of thing we heard some users were facing earlier this week, as RCS media attachments failed to come through. Today, Google’s got some news for us on its work towards setting things right.
A Google spokesperson tells Android Authority:
We are aware of a bug affecting a subset of Google Messages users that can lead to disrupted RCS message delivery. We are rolling out a fix that will reach everyone over the coming weeks. Please ensure you stay up to date with the most recent version of Google Messages.
So, not only is that confirmation that Google knows about the glitch, but we learn that the company is already starting to push out a fix.
If this one’s already been impacting your messaging, getting in the way of you sharing all your favorite GIFs, receiving word that you may still have a couple weeks to wait before the fix hits your device isn’t necessarily the greatest news in the world, but we’ll take it. As Google notes, make sure you’ve got the Play Store configured to be installing new updates as they’re available, if you want to be sure you get this one ASAP.
