Yesterday, LG teased some upcoming changes to its UX software that will be heading our way with the arrival of the LG G4. Today, LG released a few more details about its upcoming LG UX 4.0, which the company says offers a “simpler and more intuitive” design.

LG G4 UX4

Building on UX 3.0’s Gesture Shot and UX 2.0’s KnockON and KnockCode features, UX 4.0 boasts two new main features – a manual mode for the handset’s camera and improvements to its Smart Notice application. As you can see from the image to the right, LG’s latest UI is indeed a more vibrant, flattened version of its previous software, with Material Design inspired pastel colors dictating the look.

With LG already hyping up the G4’s f1.8 aperture camera, it’s pleasing to see extra control being handed over to more experienced photographers with the new Manual mode. For those who prefer auto settings, the camera also comes with Simple and Basic modes too. Speaking of camera features, LG also has a new Quick Shot feature, which allows the user to take pictures by quickly double tapping the phone’s Rear Key, even while the display is off.

“LG UX 4.0 offers simpler, faster and more intuitive ways to use the G4 with both new and improved features that intelligently accommodate each individual user,” – Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company

The whole user experience is designed to be smarter too. Smart Bulletin automatically aggregates information from multiple apps onto a single page, including information from LG Health, Smart Tips, and the improved calendar app. The new calendar app now links up to events from your social media apps, allowing for quick dragging and dropping of appointments. This is all tied together by Smart Notice, which has been improved to offer personalized notifications for weather, travel and more by analyzing a user’s daily routine and travel schedule.

LG has a couple of more fun features packed in too. The UX 4.0 Gallery can create event specific albums based on a location or time. LG’s new Ringtone ID feature can also automatically compose a ringtone for every unique caller in your favourite contacts list.
