TL;DR
  • A fix is reportedly available now for a major flaw affecting LG phones on T-Mobile.
  • The so-called IMS bug sees an error message repeatedly popping up on LG devices.
  • Users should apparently reboot their phones now to apply the fix.

LG phones on T-Mobile were affected by a rather serious bug in the last few days, as an error message every few seconds meant users couldn’t do much else. Now, it seems like a fix has quietly been released.

“Unfortunately, LG IMS has stopped,” reads the repeatedly occurring error message on many T-Mobile LG phones. LG IMS refers to the IP multimedia and voice service protocol which handles phone calls and data connections.

A few users on Reddit and Twitter also reported that they’re unable to make phone calls or send messages as a result. But this was still an annoying issue even if calls and texts were working fine for you.

Thankfully, The T Mo Report (h/t: GSMArena) has claimed that the issue is now fixed, citing a trusted source. More specifically, the outlet reports that people with affected phones can reboot their devices now to apply the fix. Those who don’t reboot will apparently be getting the fix within a day.

Guide: Everything you need to know about LG phones

We’re glad to see this serious bug reportedly fixed, as it’s the last thing you’d want to encounter after LG left the smartphone business. Nevertheless, it certainly seems like a lack of testing on T-Mobile’s part is to blame if this LG IMS issue was restricted to its network.

Haven’t received the fix yet? Then one Redditor suggests you visit Settings > Apps & Notifications > App info > 3 dot menu > Show system > com.lge.ims.rcsprovider > Storage and clear the cache and data repeatedly (up to eight times).
