LG unveils its budget focused LG K8 and K5
LG has officially announced two more smartphones in its reasonably priced K series. The new LG K8 offers up some slightly higher end features, while the K5 look like a more typical budget friendly option.
Delving into the specs, the LG K8 is a 5-inch device with a 720p display resolution, complete with 2.5D Arc Class. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6735 SoC, 8GB or 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera, and a 2,125mAh removable battery.
RAM configurations vary slightly by region, with 1GB scheduled for Latin American markets, while the rest of the world should receive 1.5GB of RAM. The phone features a woven back cover for some extra grip, complete with LG’s signature rear volume rocker, and there’s also a metallic frame running around the handset’s edge for a sleek look.
As for software, LG has packed Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board and has included some of its top end camera features, including Gesture Interval Shot and Flash for Selfie. The K8 is also equipped with NFC, 4G LTE, and NFC capabilities, and will be available in Gold, Indigo, and White color options.
“We are aware of the diverse needs and wants of our customers around the world and our goal is to deliver the best products to meet their expectations. The K8 and K5 will be fantastic choices for anyone who is seeking a smartphone with great looks, great looks, at a great price.” – Juno Cho, President and CEO, LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company
The LG K5 is a lower end model, featuring a 5-inch display with a 480 x 854 resolution, MediaTek MT6735 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 1,900mAh battery, and a 5 megapixel/2 megapixel camera combination. There’s also 4G LTE, WiFi and Bluetooth inside, but LG is only providing Android 5.1 Lollipop software pre-installed on the phone. Gold, Silver, and Titan are the available color options, but there doesn’t appear to be the same swanky case or metal design as the K8.
LG has not announced pricing or release dates for these phones yet. However, the company has stated that the K8 will launch in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, CIS and Latin America. The LG K5 will be sold in Europe, CIS and Latin America, and will be called the LG Q6 in Mexico.
