Lenovo Smart Clock available for pre-order, cheaper than the Nest Hub
Lenovo showed off the Smart Clock, a small smart display, at CES 2019. The bedside device offers a similar software experience as found on the Nest Hub, but it has been optimized for the smaller form factor. If you were interested in the Smart Clock, it is now available for pre-order from Lenovo, Walmart, and B&H.
The Lenovo Smart Clock features a four-inch IPS LCD display. Its screen can be set to show an ambient clock, upcoming alarms, and even calendar events. The Smart Clock also has full access to the Google Assistant, allowing you to control other smart home devices.
Lenovo focused on privacy when designing the Smart Clock as the device is meant to be placed in the bedroom. The wedge-shaped device doesn’t include a camera and features a physical mute switch that cuts off the display’s microphone.
Priced at $79.99, the Lenovo Smart Clock is the most budget-conscious smart display currently for sale. The Google Nest Hub, which features almost identical functional but with a slightly larger screen, retails for $129.
And one thing the Smart Clock has that others don’t? A USB-A port on the back of the bedside device so that you can charge your phone. So with the smart display on your bedside, you get an internet-connected alarm clock, a speaker for listening to music, access Google Assistant, the ability to cast content to your Chromecast-compatible devices, and a phone charger.
The Lenovo Smart Clock should start shipping the first week of June. An official release date hasn’t been set, but two of the retailers have the bedside display set to begin shipping on June 2 and June 4. Pre-order the Lenovo Smart Clock for $79.99 from Lenovo, Walmart, or B&H.
