Lenovo launches the Moto Z and Moto Z Play with Moto Mods in India

The Moto Z and Moto Z Play boast of semi-modular capabilities allowing you to attach modules – called Moto Mods – to your smartphones for extra functionality.

In a press event in New Delhi, Lenovo launched the Moto Z and Moto Z Play along with Moto Mods in India.

The company had unveiled the Moto Z at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 earlier this year and showcased the semi-modular capabilities of the smartphone. Essentially, you can attach modules – called Moto Mods – for extra functionality.

  • Display: 5.5-inch QHD (2560 × 1440) AMOLED display
  • Processor: 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Internal Storage: 64GB; expandable up to 2TB with microSD card
  • Rear Camera: 13MP | f/1.8 aperture | Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) | Dual LED flash
  • Front Camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 2600mAh; with Turbo Charging support

The Moto Z Play was unveiled at IFA earlier this year, and offers up to 45 hours of battery life on mixed use, as per the company’s claims. It also supports their proprietary fast charging technology, TurboPower, that offers up to eight hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging.

Lenovo is bringing the entire portfolio of Moto Mods to India. Big props to the company for that!

  • JBL SoundBoost: This Moto Mod from JBL adds powerful speakers to your device allowing you to listen anywhere. The JBL SoundBoost sports and integrated kickstand and adds 10 hours of extra battery, and is available for ₹6,999 (₹5,999 bundle pricing at the launch).
  • Moto Insta-Share Projector: The ‘pocket’ projector allows you to watch yur pictures, videos, shows, and sports action on big screen by projecting up to 70 inches. Priced at ₹19,999 (₹15,999), the mod also adds an extra hour of battery life.
  • Incipio offGRID Power Pack: The power bank mod adds an extra 2200mAh battery, and will be available for ₹5,999 (₹4,999). There’s also a wireless charging version, but no word on its availability at the moment.
  • Moto Style Shells: Priced at ₹1,099 onwards, the shells are premium designed back panels available in wood, leather, and ballistic nylon. One Style Shell will also be bundled in the box.
  • Hasselblad True Zoom: The photography mod offers the design and ergonomics of a Hasselblad camera and offers 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash. It allows you to shoot in RAW format and share and backup your photos seamlessly in an instant. The Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod will be available for ₹19,999 (₹14,999).

The Moto Z is priced at ₹39,999 ($600), and the Moto Z Play will be available for ₹24,999 ($375). The two smartphones be available in India from 11:59pm onwards on October 17 on Amazon and Flipkart.
