The SteamOS Legion Go 2 is real, but you'll have to start saving for summer

Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 gets SteamOS, but the price and wait are hard to ignore.

TL;DR
  • Lenovo has officially announced a SteamOS-powered version of the Legion Go 2.
  • It uses the same hardware as the Windows model, including an 8.8-inch OLED display and AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip.
  • Pricing starts at $1,199, with availability expected in June 2026.

Leaks in December suggested that Lenovo was preparing a SteamOS-powered version of the Legion Go 2. It was presented as a possible alternative to the Windows model, targeting players who sought a more console-like experience on a handheld. It appears the rumors were true, as Lenovo has now officially announced that device at CES 2026.

Unveiling the device, Lenovo appears to have formally titled it the Legion Go, powered by SteamOS (8.8”, 2). While the name is a bit clunky, it appears to simply describe the same second-generation Legion Go hardware, featuring an 8.8-inch display, this time running Valve’s operating system instead of Windows.

Lenovo says this is its most powerful handheld to natively ship with Valve’s SteamOS. The pitch is a streamlined, controller-first experience, complete with quick suspend and resume, native Steam library access, cloud saves, and a UI designed for handheld play rather than desktop navigation.

In terms of hardware, nothing has changed from the Legion Go 2 announced last year. The SteamOS variant is powered by up to an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and as much as 2TB of PCIe storage, plus microSD expansion. It also keeps the 8.8-inch WUXGA OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, detachable controllers with Hall effect sticks, dual USB-C ports, and a 74Wh battery.

Lenovo is effectively offering the same hardware in two flavors: Windows for flexibility and broader compatibility, and SteamOS for a more console-style setup. It also mirrors what Lenovo has already done with the Legion Go S, which launched in both Windows and SteamOS variants.

Lenovo says the SteamOS-powered Legion Go 2 will start at $1,199, making it more expensive than the Windows version, which launched at $1,049. Availability is currently expected in June 2026, which may disappoint those eager to try the device, but it would beat the 10-month wait from announcement to sale of the original Legion Go 2.

That price also puts it comfortably above Valve’s own Steam Deck. Lenovo isn’t chasing value here. Instead, this looks like a premium take on SteamOS, aimed at players who are willing to pay extra for high-end hardware paired with a console-like experience.
