The issue was first reported by security researcher Jason Donenfeld. He found that the OnePlus 6 could boot a modified image, even ones that bypass the normal bootloader protective features. The change log for the new OxygenOS 5.1.7 update shows that it includes a fix for this bootloader problem. It also has a number of other fixes and improvements, including one that fixes a schedule setting issue found in the phone’s Do Not Disturb mode.
OnePlus has also pulled the older OxygenOS 5.1.6 update, which included new features such as adding portrait mode for the OnePlus 6’s front camera. All of the new features in that update are also included in the new OxygenOS 5.1.7 version. If you live in India, be aware that OnePlus has already found some stability problems with the new update, and they will be addressed next week with the release of OxygenOS 5.1.8 in that part of the world, while the rest get version 5.1.7.
