Samsung Galaxy Alpha-21

Samsung has recently released its metallic bodied Galaxy A3 and A5, but the third entry in the series, the highly anticipate Galaxy A7, was strangely absent from the October launch. We are still waiting for an official word regarding this handset from Samsung, but industry insiders have apparently leaked the final specifications for the Galaxy A7.

As the naming scheme implies, the Galaxy A7 will be the high-end option in the Galaxy A range. It will supposedly feature a larger 5.5-inch 1080p display than its siblings and an octa-core Exynos 5433 chipset, the same SoC that powers the Galaxy Note 4, rather than the mid-range quad-core processors found in the other two smartphones. The Exynos 5433’s Cortex-A57 cores will be clocked at 1.8GHz and at 1.3GHz for the Cortex-A53s. Previous rumors had suggested that the Galaxy A7 would ship with a Snapdragon 615, which is an octa-core Cortex-A53 chip.

Here is the rumored spec sheet.

Most of the other specifications remain the same as the Samsung Galaxy A5. The handset still looks set to come with LTE support, Android KitKat, and a high resolution rear camera. The only difference between the Galaxy A5 and A7 appears to be the improved SoC and larger display.

The move to a high-end mobile processor and large FullHD display seems to encroach somewhat into Samsung’s flagship territory, making the Galaxy A7 an even more interesting device. While the Galaxy A series doesn’t feature the full array of features typically associated with a Samsung flagship, the smartphone may appeal to those looking for a high performance smartphone without the extra stuffing and expense.

As for a release date or price details, we are still waiting for news directly from Samsung. Perhaps the Galaxy A7’s release is being delayed until Samsung can work out the alleged production issues that affected the launch of its A5 and A3 smartphones.
