What is Impulse?

Impulse is a social media application that is kind of a mash up between Foursquare and Snapchat. Users post images and such and other people who are in the same area can see them and interact with them. It’s location based so the posts you see are from people in your immediate area.

It’s unique because it uses Snapchat’s self-destruct style picture shares so the things you see are not only in your area, but also time sensitive so you won’t see things that are old. From there you can interact with them as you please.

Along with the location-based features and the time sensitivity, users on Impulse are also mostly anonymous so you can interact without fear of someone thinking that it’s you until you’re ready to say something. There is also a way to privately message other users using anonymous private messages. While the intention was likely innocent, we’ve no doubt there will be people asking for hookups from the safety of anonymity.

Other than all that, you get a relatively modern interface that is easy to navigate. Since all posts are time sensitive, the network pretty much clears out every day so if it ever gains traction, you don’t have to deal with seeing the same stuff every day and that’s always nice.

Impulse review
Overall, this is a new network so if you try it out now, you’ll be an early adopter which means your area may not have a lot of content in your area. If you do manage to stick it and if the app does become popular, it has the potential to be a lot of fun for people to find and engage with new people. Plus, it’s free!
