Huawei's next foldable phone could be cheaper and smaller than the Mate X

The real question is, will this one launch outside of China?

The HUAWEI Mate Xs is also coming next year.

HUAWEI is all set to launch its second foldable smartphone even though its first one never made it out of China. The company is expected to announce the Mate XS, successor to last year’s Mate X, at MWC 2020.

The only confirmation we have about the Mate XS is that it’ll use the 5G Kirin 990 chipset. Today, we get some more info about the device thanks to an unconfirmed leak.

A report coming out of China suggests that the Mate XS would be cheaper than its predecessor. This is because HUAWEI now apparently has a better grip on the manufacturing process of foldables.

Supply chain sources tell MyDrivers that the folding display is no longer difficult to assemble. The company has also reportedly upped its production output and plans to pass on the cost benefits to the end consumer.

Additionally, the Mate X is said to come with a redesigned hinge mechanism and a sturdier display. The hinge is reportedly more stable and the display is more durable this time around.

It is also reported that the Mate XS will be smaller than the Mate X in its overall footprint. However, the display size is said to remain the same.

Moreover, supply chain sources have also revealed that a third HUAWEI foldable smartphone is in the making. The device is expected to launch in the second half of this year.

It looks like 2020 will be the year of foldables. With HUAWEI’s two new entries and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip on the way, the pipeline for foldables looks strong. However, we would advise users to take the above given information with a pinch of salt since none of it has been confirmed by our usual sources.
