Mate 30 Pro video teaser hints at design, key features
The HUAWEI Mate 30 series launch is mired in controversy because of the expected lack of Google Play Store support. Word is HUAWEI might have to tell users to install Google apps on their own after they purchase the Mate 30 or the Mate 30 Pro. The company is still under a U.S. trade ban that stops Google from doing business with it. However, that’s not stopping HUAWEI from heavily teasing the Mate 30 series on Twitter.
Huawei’s new Mate 30 video teaser seems like a nod to all the main features headed to the phone. We already have a bunch of rumors that give us a sense of what the Mate 30 series will be like, and the new teasers further cement their credibility.
Everything you’ve been waiting for is finally on its way.
Get ready to #RethinkPossibilities with the #HuaweiMate30 Series.

Camera is king
We know that HUAWEI’s Mate 20 Pro possessed great photography skills. In our review, we noted that its triple camera setup can assist with some pretty versatile shots, though its low-light imaging skills were not all that impressive. It seems like HUAWEI is set to change that and create another benchmark for smartphone photography.
The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are expected to feature a primary quad-camera setup housed in a circular setting. The teaser shows a string of visuals accompanied by text such as “Look beyond the light,” “See time differently,” and “Rethink darkness.” All of these could point to camera features such as improved low-light photography and better slow-mo and time-lapse shots.
The emphasis on light in the teaser could be in reference to the Xenon flash that the Mate 30 Pro is expected to feature.
According to previous leaks, the Mate 30 series could feature two 40MP cameras, one of them being an ultra-wide sensor. These could be accompanied by an 8MP 5x telephoto lens and a 3D Time-of-Flight lens.
Full speed ahead
The Mate 30 teaser also makes multiple references to speed such as “Go fast, go large,” which could be a nod to the phones’ rumored 6.7-inch, 90Hz AMOLED display. The words “Power through speed” and “Rethink connectivity” are likely in reference to the new 7nm Kirin 990 chipset that HUAWEI made official during IFA 2019.
The octa-core chipset is said to boost overall performance and features an integrated 5G modem, a first for any flagship chip. The company claims a 10% performance boost over Qualcomm’s competing Snapdragon 855, but we’ll only know if this advantage is real when we test the chipset.
More power
A reference to fast charging is pretty apparent when the words “Rethink charging” appear in the video. We think the Mate 30 Pro will carry forward features such as improved reverse wireless charging and 40W wired charging from its predecessors, the HUAWEI P30 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro.
Given that HUAWEI’s latest wireless charging pad hit the FCC a while back, it’s possible that the new Mate 30 series will feature 30W wireless charging, up from 15W previously.
Design confirmed
While a couple of trustworthy sources have previously confirmed that the Mate 30 Pro will indeed look like the leaked image at the top of this article, it’s always good to receive confirmation right from the manufacturer. The teaser uses a lot of ring imagery, a clear nod to the circular design of the camera module on the back of the Mate 30 Pro.
For now, HUAWEI’s fate hangs in the balance as the world watches how it’ll go around the lack of pre-loaded Google services on the Mate 30 series. Head here to learn more about the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro.
