TL;DR
  • HUAWEI has announced release information for the EMUI 12 update.
  • The update will kick off from H1 2022 and will hit phones dating back to 2018.

HUAWEI has enjoyed much better times in global markets, but the company is still devoted to pushing out updates to international users. Now, the company has announced release plans for EMUI 12, including a timeline and supported devices.

The manufacturer announced the plans via an APAC product launch stream on YouTube (h/t: FoneArena), saying that the updates would be pushed out from the first half of 2022.

The confirmed devices can be found in the list below:

  • Mate 40 Pro
  • P40/P40 Pro/P40 Pro Plus
  • Mate XS
  • Mate 30/Mate 30 Pro
  • P30/P30 Pro
  • Mate 20/Mate 20X/Mate 20X 5G/Mate 20 RS/Mate 20 Pro
  • P20/P20 Pro
  • Mate 10/Mate 10 Pro/Mate 10 Porsche
  • Nova 7/Nova 7i/Nova 7 SE
  • Nova 5T
  • Nova 4/Nova 4E
  • Y9S
  • Y9 Prime 2019
  • Y8P

It’s interesting to note that the company’s EMUI 12 roll-out applies to phones dating back to 2018, which should be welcome news for the people still holding on to their Google-toting HUAWEI phones.

However, it must be said that this is likely just the EMUI skin being updated rather than the underlying Android version as well. We’ve already seen HUAWEI do this with EMUI 11 on older devices. So those expecting Android 12 features like the Privacy Dashboard and mic/camera alerts shouldn’t hold their breath.

Nevertheless, EMUI 12 promises a redesigned UI and improved cross-device integration. You can check out our EMUI 12 article for more details about the upcoming update.
