Evan Blass leaked information about what he refers to as the HTCDesire 12. Is HTCplanning an entry-level 18:9 smartphone?

TL;DR
  • A leaker suggests that HTCwill release a new entry in the Desire series, the HTCDesire 12.
  • If the leaks are accurate, the phone would be an entry-level, mostly-all-screen, 18:9 device.
  • The last phone in the Desire series was launched back in September 2016.

With Mobile World Congress 2018 right around the corner, leaks of new phones and possible specs are coming at a relentless pace. Evan Blass, who has a very accurate track record, has just suggested on Twitter that HTCcould announce a new entry in the Desire series sometime soon.

According to Blass, HTC has a phone in the works, codenamed “Breeze.” If what Blass says is correct, the phone will be an attempt to introduce an entry-level smartphone with a mostly-all-screen 18:9 display.

Notably, HTChas used the “Breeze” codename before. Back in 2006, the HTCMTeoR ran under that codename. Is there some sort of connection, or is the company just running low on codenames?

Features

Since the phone would be entry-level, the specs most likely will be quite weak. Blass says that the phone would have a 5.5-inch, 18:9 display, running on a MediaTek chipset. Inside it would feature 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and a 2,730 mAh battery.

In a separate tweet, Blass refers to this leaked device as the HTCDesire 12. It’s worth noting that the last entry in the Desire series was the HTCDesire 10 Pro, so why would it skip from 10 to 12? Blass is usually dependable when it comes to leaks, so maybe this really is what the HTCDesire 12 will look like.

We’ll be sure to update this article with any newly leaked information as it comes along. But, as usual, nothing is set in stone until HTCmakes an official announcement.
