Android updates are something of a hit-or-miss affair: the newest Google Nexus devices ship with the latest build, and then every other OEM scrambles to catch up, if they bother trying at all. In light of some questionable decisions in the past, HTChas pledged to update its devices with all due haste. With this intention, owners of the HTCOne M8 GPe were no doubt in shock when the manufacturer announced Lollipop would hit by the end of this week. Except it seems, unfortunately, its not going to hit today.

HTC’s VP of Product Management Mo Versi made the sad announcement via Twitter, explaining that new software was required, and Google needs to approve it. Unfortunately no details were provided as to the nature of this software alteration, or how long it will take Google to give the thumbs-up. Given that the device in question isn’t truly “stock” (as it has the Duo Camera, for example), it’s possible there was some kind of compatibility issue or last minute bug that was discovered. Take a look at the full Tweet below:

With any luck, owners of the M8 GPe will be licking Lollipops within the next few days. Still, even if it ends up taking another week or two, this is far better than what you get with other devices. Unfortunately, those customers who specifically purchase the GPe editions are inevitably hardcore Android users, the exact customers who are likely to be most upset over news like this.
